Despite the misleading title, guests come here to pay respect to a Christian reverend.
Margaret’s first husband was shot in the 1970s, leaving her as a widow running the market. She later met Reverend Dennis, who helped her transform this humble store into a piece of folk art. True to Southern religious affiliation, the establishment contains many gospel references and displays of worship. This Christian cathedral has Reverend Dennis’ vision of Heaven, complete with a chapel and two-story praying tower. Since the Reverend died in 2012, the building failed to maintain itself and appears somewhat rundown and in ruins, though many visitors still stop by to view the art pieces. Come and experience the spiritual ambiance, and shout hallelujah in a loud and proud Southern Christian fashion.
