Visit this preserved sugarcane plantation in southern Louisiana.
The Houmas House Plantation is located by the Mississippi River about halfway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. It offers guided tours of the historic mansion and takes guests back in time to see the evolution of life on a working plantation. The Houmas House features Greek Revival architecture, and it underwent expansions over the years as it was passed down and sold to various owners. As you explore the home's interior, you will notice the opulence of the wealthy owners through the ages and soak in the grandeur of the two-level mansion.
This historic attraction is open daily (except on Christmas and New Year's Day) from 9 am to 7 pm and mansion tours begin every half hour. This historic plantation also features 38 acres of gardens around the grounds. Please note that leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds, and well-behaved dogs are often allowed on the mansion tour. The most recent movie filmed at the Houmas House was the Green Book (2018), but there have been over a dozen movies and TV shows featuring this historic home. If you're in southern Louisiana, you won't regret visiting this beautiful plantation.
