Council Bluff Lake can be found in the expansive Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri, and it also happens to be the largest lake in the forest. Covering 440 acres, this lake and its surroundings offer a beautiful escape full of swimming, fishing, paddling, hiking, and relaxing. Some of the most common fish species in the lake include largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. In the summer months, the lake is the perfect temperature to beat the heat after long days of exploring.

The lake is surrounded by rolling hills and lush forests, and you can immerse yourself even more in this picturesque setting by embarking on the 12-mile Council Bluff Trail which encircles the lake. If you’d rather take it a bit slower, there are ample areas to set up a picture-perfect picnic overlooking the gorgeous scenery. There are also many campsites at Council Bluff Lake – on the Wild Boar Campground there are 39 sites that each have a fire ring, table, and lantern post.
