This historical house is regarded as the "Most Haunted House" in all of Mississippi.
The McRaven Tour Home has been coined as the “Most Haunted House” in the entire state of Mississippi. Located in Vicksburg, this house was built in the year 1797 – before Mississippi was even a state – by a man named Andrew Glass. Glass initially built just 2 bedrooms and a kitchen with bricks, and then later in 1836, Sheriff Stephen Howard made additions to the home, while keeping many of the original aspects of it intact. A third and final portion of the house was added in 1849 by John H. Bobb. Bobb added a sophisticated parlor, a flying wing staircase, and a master bedroom.
The McRaven House has been available for the public to experience since 1961. It’s filled with antiques and other artifacts that help really transport you as the visitor to the colonial era and beyond. The haunted legends of the house relate to the fact that at least 5 people have died in this home, and Confederate soldiers likely did, as well. The majority of the ghost activity is said to be experienced in the middle upstairs bedroom because there is a lamp that allegedly turns on and off on its own. The McRaven House offers both history and haunted tours. The haunted tours are only available Friday through Sunday at 7 and 8 pm.
