Learn about the agricultural history of the lower Mississippi River.
The Lower Mississippi River Museum is located off of Interstate 20 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. This interactive museum features a flood model of the river, a 1,500-gallon aquarium with native river fish, and restored steamboats that can be explored. Visitors will also learn about the communities that have lived in the region and how they have overcome tragedies like the 1927 flood. Be sure to check out the "flood tent," which depicts how displaced families survived after the tragic 1927 flood.
A great place to start is at the orientation theater, where you'll see a video depicting significant events in the area. Look at the timeline of events to better understand how this part of the U.S. has been shaped. Admission is free for all guests and their hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. The Lower Mississippi River Museum is ready to welcome all who are interested in learning about the Mississippi River.
