This wildlife sanctuary has two trail systems that allow visitors to experience native Alaskan wildlife in gorgeous surroundings.
The Fountainhead Wedgewood Wildlife Sanctuary can be found in Fairbanks, Alaska, and is a place you don’t want to miss out on experiencing if you’re in the region. This wildlife sanctuary has a wide array of animal species on the premises from about 15 kinds of mammals to over 100 bird species. Expect to see creatures like red foxes, beavers, moose, cranes, owls, and geese – to name a few. There are two lovely trail systems at the sanctuary that have plenty of interpretive signs to help explain to guests the different species and ecosystems that make this place oh-so-special.
There’s nothing quite like the Alaskan wilderness, with its towering, dense trees, unbelievably crisp air, and intriguing animal species. The sanctuary is a great place to bring kids so they can learn about the native wildlife or even to come alone with your binoculars so you can fully immerse yourself in the peace that this landscape is able to bring. There are more than enough benches along the trail systems to take any needed rests or to simply bask in the surroundings. Between August 21 and April 21 it is considered Aurora Season, and the sanctuary happens to be a great place to try and find the indescribable and rare Northern Lights. The Fountainhead Wedgewood Wildlife Sanctuary is open year-round and is also free to all guests.
