This museum brings visitors into Wasilla, Alaska's rich history in gold mining and dog mushing.
The Wasilla Museum and Visitor Center is helping recount the history of the town of Wasilla, Alaska, which is where you’ll find this museum. The town played a big role in gold mining in the early 20th century. At this museum and historic site, guests can see real artifacts and learn all about things like dog mushing and the impact this town had during Alaska’s gold mining era. The museum itself is in a building that’s been around since 1917 and that also used to be a community center for Wasilla.
The primary area of the museum has great displays that depict how the town of Wasilla used to look back in the day and learn about how the railroad here really created a boost in the town. This is a special museum that truly allows you to step back in time and become immersed in the rich culture that has existed here through the native tribes for thousands of years. There are areas around the establishment that serve as perfect spots for a picnic – you’ll be able to see the stunning Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains. The museum is open year-round between Tuesday and Friday from 9 until 4. Admission is $3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors, $2 for military, and those under 12 are free. Be sure to check out the gift shop at the museum before you head out for great and locally made products and souvenirs.
