Museum of the North

There’s much to see and learn about within the Museum of the North. The museum’s mission is to preserve history, partner with the community, research, educate, foster inclusivity, and encourage curiosity. The impressive and diverse collection of around 2.5 million artifacts and specimens tell the story of Alaska’s one-of-a-kind environment, people, and heritage. The artworks here span 2,000 years of Alaskan history and there’s even a 36,000-year-old mummified steppe bison on display.

At the innovative “The Place Where You Go to Listen” exhibit, experience the constantly changing sounds and lights that is influenced by the real-time seasons, sun and moon positions, wind patterns, and geological activity. Guests have the option between touring the museum at their own pace or booking a guided tour for deeper insight about the seemingly endless artifacts on display. Programs and events are also held here at regular intervals, such as specialized movie showings, behind the scenes tours, and holiday events.
