Explore a historical mansion built in the early 1900s.
Riordan Mansion State Historic Park is located in the southern part of Flagstaff, Arizona. This mansion features Arts-and-Crafts architecture and was designed by Charles Whittlesey, the same person who designed the El Tovar Hotel at the Grand Canyon. The Riordan Mansion was built in 1904 and has been preserved to look like it did in the 1900s. Many of our modern-day conveniences were part of the original construction such as central heating, electric lighting, and indoor plumbing. Timothy and Michael Riordan and their families occupied this space and made it large enough to accommodate everyone without feeling crowded. The billiard room connects both wings of the mansion and was the common area for the Riordan's.
Guided tours of the Riordan Mansion are available from 11 am to 4 pm Friday through Monday. During the tour, be sure to take some time in the rendezvous room and admire the restored window transparency photos. The Riordan's were prominent businessmen in the area and established a logging company in Flagstaff called the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company. There are several family artifacts and things on display inside the home, but be aware that touching or damaging these items is not allowed. If you enjoy learning about historical places, stop by the Riordan Mansion State Historic Park the next time you're in Flagstaff.
