Explore one of the few national forests in Arizona.
The Coconino National Forest is located off I-17 in northern Arizona. Blue spruce, Douglas fir, Rocky Mountain juniper, and Ponderosa pine are some of the trees you will see here. This national forest also features mountainous peaks, streams, lakes, and rivers. Anglers with current fishing licenses are welcome to do fly fishing along the river. One of the most stunning views in the area includes the San Francisco Peaks. Humphreys Peak is the tallest, but surrounding peaks include the Abineau, Rees, Fremont, Agassiz, and Doyle. Horseback riding is permitted on most trails in the forest, except Humphreys Trail, the Inner Basin Trail in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness, and Elden Lookout Trail.
Please bring plenty of water and good hiking shoes with you, and be aware that leashed dogs are allowed on the trails. All are welcome to reserve a campsite online using a credit card; however, in-person reservations at the national forest only accept cash. If you love nature, bring your friends and family to this pristine national forest the next time you're in Flagstaff, Arizona.
