John Dickinson was one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution. He earned his living by farming tobacco. This plantation was built in 1739 and provides guided tours to visitors. You will learn about the people who lived at the plantation and what life was like in colonial times. It also features a display of six simple machines, including the inclined plane, screw, wedge, pulley, lever, and wheel and axle.
This site is free to the public and offers plenty of parking spots for visitors. Anyone coming in the spring should consider participating in the Old Dover Days Celebration, which is held annually on the first Saturday of May. The plantation also takes part in this annual celebration and welcomes all guests. Hours of operation are subject to change, but the John Dickinson Plantation is typically open for guided tours Thursday through Saturday. This historic plantation is located in Dover, Delaware, and offers historical insight into America's humble beginnings.
