Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is located in southeastern Delaware. There are six miles of walking trails and plenty of wildlife to see as you explore the refuge. Common animals you may see include marsh hawks, bald eagles, pintail ducks, snow geese, wood frogs, osprey, horseshoe crabs, snapping turtles, deer, Canadian geese, and more. Please note that poison ivy, ticks, and mosquitoes are common in the area, so it is best to remain on the marked paths.
This peaceful wildlife refuge is open daily from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. The visitor center is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. May is the best time to see large populations of shorebirds and songbirds at this refuge. The main natural habitats include the saltwater marsh and grassland dunes.
