Spend a day at the beach in southeastern Delaware.
Fenwick Island State Park is located on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Little Assawoman Bay in southern Delaware. The area remained largely undisturbed when the nearby towns were built. This region was part of Delaware's coastal defense system during World War II, and a concrete observation tower from that era still stands at the northern end of the park.
Popular activities include swimming, surfing, and sunbathing on the white sand beaches. The park has lifeguards on duty during the summer, and the beach has a modern bathhouse, a snack food concession stand, and rentable umbrellas and chairs. If you would rather spend time kayaking, go to Little Assawoman Bay and end your day watching the sunset. Fenwick Island State Park is open daily from 8 am to sunset, and daily entrance fees are $10 for out-of-state visitors. If you're visiting the east coast, consider adding Fenwick Island State Park to your itinerary.
