Over several weeks and numerous debates, these documents were written and signed, which changed the course of history.
The building that stands today was constructed from 1772 to 1773. Many historical events happened here, one of which was when George Washington was appointed as the Commander and Chief of the Continental Army in 1775. The Second Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention was also held here. Many well-known founding fathers have walked these very halls, such as George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, as well as Benjamin Franklin, William S. Johnson, and James Madison.
Independence Hall is fashioned after 18th-century Georgian design and gives visitors an idea of what architectural structures looked like back in the 1700s.
