See Valley Forge, one of the most important sites of the American Revolutionary War.
Valley Forge is the home of over 3,000 acres that have historical significance dating to the Revolutionary War era. General George Washington had his troops occupy Valley Forge in Pennsylvania to recoup and prepare the soldiers before their march to take on the British forces. Valley Forge is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, and they strive to preserve and portray the story of what happened all those years ago. Over 20,000 soldiers stayed at Valley Forge to seek refuge during the winter of 1777 into 1778.
Check out the visitor center to see a short film explaining the history of Valley Forge. Several tour options are available, including self-driven tours, trolley tours, and private tours. Taking a tour will help you see the majority of the Valley Forge encampment and multiple monuments throughout this area. Aside from the deep history, Valley Forge is a beautiful section of our country and has thriving plant life and wildlife. You are welcome to hike through Mt. Joy or Mt. Misery forests if you like. Keep an eye out for deer, chipmunks, red foxes, and other wildlife.
