The Winterthur Museum is located northwest of the Nemours Estate in northern Delaware. It features a collection of items and paintings that Henry Francis Du Pont wanted to showcase. You will see collections dating back to the 17th century, including fine ceramic dining sets, furniture, glass pieces, textiles, and more. Outside, guests are also welcome to view the gardens. The grounds and garden are adjacent to the museum feature 25 miles of walking trails. Feel free to bring your own food for a picnic in the grassy areas. Popular picnic spots include Sycamore Hill and the lawn next to the Enchanted Woods.
This museum and the gardens are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. History buffs of all ages will enjoy touring this historic American museum. With over 90,000 decorative arts, this unparalleled collection of American artifacts is housed inside an impressive 175-room mansion. Expect to spend at least a couple of hours at the Winterthur Museum.
