Visit several historical sites and learn about the history of Delaware.
First State National Historical Park is located in northeastern Delaware. The park features six different sites scattered throughout the state. A great place to start is at Dover Green in downtown Dover, Delaware. Guided and self-guided walking tours are available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm, but the outdoor space at Dover Green is open daily from sunrise to sunset. You can also head to Fort Christina to see where the first Swedish settlers landed and formed the New Sweden colony. This historic site is open seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day and they offer guided tours of the area.
Brandywine Valley is an outdoor space that is open daily from sunrise to sunset. This spot is perfect for hiking and picnicking and it covers over 1,200 acres of land to explore. The John Dickinson Plantation, Old Swedes Historic Site, and New Castle are also part of this national historical park. If you're visiting Delaware, it will be worth your time to visit any of these historic sites.
