Zilker Park

Visit Austin's most beloved city park.

Zilker Park is located in south Austin, Texas, just south of the Colorado River. This is the city's oldest metropolitan park and it is named after a prominent local businessman Andrew Jackson Zilker, who arrived in the area during the 1870s. It features outdoor volleyball courts, picnic areas, a disc golf course, a nature center, swimming pool, theatre, recreation center, and botanical gardens. Zilker Park hosts several annual events such as the ABC Kite Festival, Zilker Summer Musical, Austin Music Festival, and the Trail of Lights during the holiday season.

Recreational activities available at the park include swimming, disc golfing, picnicking, exploring nature trails, walking through the botanical garden, biking, and more. Barton Springs is a natural pool that remains at a temperature of 68 to 70 degrees, making it ideal for swimming any time of the year. Lifeguards are on duty at the pool daily from 8 am to 6 pm, but you can swim at your own risk during any other time of the day or night. It is easy to spend an entire day at Zilker Park.
