Witness the history of the development of radio and wireless communication.
The Vintage Radio and Communication Museum has been open since 1991. It is a great way to become educated about the history of communication. The museum also has a focus on how Connecticut made contributions to the evolution of said communication. So many volunteers have put in so much time and dedication to make the museum a success. It features things from the 1850s to the 1970s when computers came about. Besides the many displays, they also have a research library with factory manuals, schematics, QAT magazines, etc.
The volunteers give tours and have so much knowledge to offer. During the tours, the guides show and operate items that some people may have never seen or experienced before. The tour guides also let visitors dial phones and send Morse Code messages to other visitors across the room. Visiting this museum will give you an in-depth understanding of the history of technology, from telegraphs to modern computers. They have a fully functional, well-equipped HAM station where people with a HAM operator license can use them. The layout is creative, and there are lots of buttons for kids to push, making it a fun, hands-on museum. Take a look at an original Edison Phonograph with wax recordings before you leave. Museum hours are Thursday & Friday from 10 am - 3 pm, Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm - 4 pm.
