This preserved natural area has the tallest point in the state of Massachusetts.
The Mount Greylock State Reservation is a large preserved natural area that’s located in northwest Massachusetts. The park covers land in six separate towns with its 12,000 acres and Mount Greylock is even the tallest point in the entire state, standing at 3,491 feet. The climb to the top of the mountain offers hikers phenomenal views of the surrounding land. They say you can even see up to 90 miles away on a clear day! The park has a variety of recreational activities that outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy all year long.
Some of the favorite activities people enjoy at Mount Greylock include hiking, camping, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. There’s a 93-foot war memorial at the peak of Mount Greylock, which was dedicated in June of 1933 and commemorates the veterans of WWI. The park is open every day (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) between dawn and dusk. If camping, there are different fees for residents of the state and non-residents, so be sure to check ahead of time. Mount Greylock State Reservation is one of the best spots in the state to enjoy a beautiful day, and if you can, definitely make your way here in the autumn when the leaves change color.
