Explore Robert Lincoln's estate in southwestern Vermont.
The Hildene encompasses over 400-acres of land and has over a dozen historic buildings to explore. This beautiful family home was built in the early 1900s and features Georgian Revival architecture. Check out the peony-filled formal garden just outside the home, the wildflower meadow (Allee trail), historic carriage barn, old schoolhouse, working dairy farm, and the 1903 Pullman train car while you're here.
Along with the historical sites, guests can explore the walking trails around Hildene. There are about 12 miles of marked trails to follow, and they all begin at the Welcome Center. Spring and fall are incredibly scenic, but this historic site is open year-round. Be sure to walk along the floating boardwalk overlooking the wetland on the lower part of the property near the dairy farm. The Hildene is designed for self-guided tours, but they also offer seasonal guided wagon rides to guests. Enjoy this neat historic site the next time you're traveling through Vermont.
