A lovely spot to enjoy the beauty of nature in Iowa.
Open since 1980, the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens is located in northwestern Dubuque. This is a place that is run solely by volunteers. There is no admission fee, but donations are always welcome. Within the garden area, you will find several unique gardens featuring flowers such as roses, peonies, petunias, zinnias, marigolds, begonias, dahlias, and more. The arboretum has several large trees such as oak, maple, birch, and magnolia.
The grounds are open daily from 7 am to sunset. Feel free to stop by the welcome center for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate on brisk fall mornings. Please note that the welcome center is open seasonally from May to October Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday. Be sure to stop by Marlyn's Garden area, it's a particularly peaceful place and features a neat waterfall. There's also a Japanese, Shade, Herb, and English garden. You can easily spend hours walking around the arboretum and botanical gardens. If you're near Dubuque, Iowa, a visit to this place will not disappoint.
