Take a trip back in time to this 200 year old southern plantation.
The Callaway Plantation is located east of Atlanta, Georgia near the Savannah River. This plantation had humble beginnings. Job Callaway first built a log cabin on the property in 1785, and it eventually grew to a 3,000-acre working plantation complete with a Greek Revival-style home. There are seven historical structures available to tour, including a period log cabin, one-room schoolhouse, general store, and more.
Upon arrival, you will notice the brick mansion which was constructed with Georgia red clay and completed in 1869. The Callaway's lived here from 1869 to 1910. It was never updated with electricity or indoor plumbing and contains many original artifacts inside. This historic site is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and guided tours are available at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3:30 pm. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch with you and enjoy the picnic areas around the grounds of the plantation. If you're visiting northern Georgia, be sure to see the historic Callaway Plantation with your friends and family.
