Come and see the highest waterfall East of the Rocky Mountains.
The land of waterfalls is located in Transylvania County. There are over 250 waterfalls to explore while you are in North Carolina. One of the most popular waterfalls is the Whitewater Falls featuring a 400-foot drop. It is located off of NC State Route 281. While many of these falls can be accessed by car, some of the falls will require a hike to see them. You can either take a self-guided waterfall tour or book with one of the local guided tour groups. Some of the most visited waterfalls are located in Dupont State Recreational Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and off of Highway 215. If you want to cool off and experience a fun thrill ride, be sure to visit the Sliding Rock Falls located off of Interstate 276. Look for the Sliding Rock Recreation Area sign.
If you are hiking to visit some of these falls, be sure to stay on the trails, watch your footing on wet rocks, and stay away from the ledges at the top of the falls. Never hike alone, and bring shoes with good traction to prevent you from slipping. Any outdoor enthusiast will have a good time visiting the land of waterfalls. Bring a camera with you to capture some of Mother Nature’s most incredible water features.
