Explore the wetlands near Beaver Lake in Asheville.
The Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary is located in the Northern region of Asheville, North Carolina. This nature preserve features a handicap-accessible boardwalk where visitors can view the birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The boardwalk follows a complete loop with several scenic overlooks to enjoy views of the lake. Common bird species you can see year-round include blue jays, Carolina chickadees, American goldfinches, Carolina wrens, and Northern cardinals.
This outdoor attraction hosts monthly bird outings on the first Saturday of every month, starting at 8 AM from April to September and starting at 9 AM from October to March. If you'd like to join a bird outing, meet at the gazebo at the southernmost section of the lake. Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary is open daily from dawn to dusk.
