See an incredible 400-foot waterfall in North Carolina.
The Upper Whitewater Falls is located on the southwestern border of North Carolina. This is the highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. It features rugged terrain and is underdeveloped for the most part, so it is a secluded but magnificent place to visit. From the parking lot, visitors can walk along the paved walkway to see the upper overlook. This walkway is ADA accessible. A lower overlook can also be accessed from the wooden staircase.
This waterfall can be enjoyed year-round from dawn to dusk. There are picnic tables and restrooms, and they require a $3 fee per vehicle (with up to 7 passengers). It costs $1 per person for vehicles carrying over seven people. Hikers seeking more views of the falls can explore further but must remain on the marked trails. To avoid crowds, consider visiting Upper Whitewater Falls in the early morning or the evening hours.
