The Sandy Creek Nature Center is located off US Highway 441 in Athens, Georgia. It encompasses over 200 acres of woodland and wetland ecosystems with over four miles of walking trails to explore. The Pine Ridge Trail is ADA-accessible, just 0.20-miles long, with a wildlife observation blind along the way. If you love taking nature walks, the longest trail is the Levee Trail, where you will traverse through the Oconee River floodplain and see colossal sycamore trees, turtles, and maybe even signs of beaver activity.
Guests are also welcome to spend time in the on-site visitor center featuring live reptiles, amphibians, freshwater aquariums, and other exhibits. This nature center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Admission is free for all visitors, and the nature center trails are available daily from sunrise to sunset. Look no further for a place to reconnect with nature in eastern Georgia.
