See an incredible waterfall in eastern Kauai.
Wailua River State Park is located in the eastern region of Kauai, Hawaii's northernmost island. This historic complex features a fern-covered cave, religious sites, a couple of breathtaking waterfalls, and scenic overlooks of the Wailua River and the valley. The Wailua River runs over 10 miles and acted as a natural land division for native Hawaiian tribes that once lived here. As you explore the park, you will notice several heiaus, which were often used as religious sacrificial altars. Do not disturb these cultural resources and please be respectful of these sacred ruins.
Guests can take a riverboat cruise and learn about this part of the island or opt for a self-guided hike instead. A particularly scenic point of interest is the Opaeka'a Falls. This waterfall is over 150 feet tall and has a consistent flow coming down year-round. If you enjoy hiking and learning about historical places, Wailua River State Park is an excellent place to visit.
