Come learn about the history of the Iditarod trail and even take a ride with real sled dogs!
The Iditarod is a historic race commemorating when several dog teams and their mushers delivered a saving serum to the people of Nome during the Diphtheria epidemic in 1925. This saved hundreds of lives, and is now celebrated with the best dog mushers around the world participating in this race! This museum is full of trophies from previous winners, displays of historic sleds and other artifacts, and photos of historic moments in the race.
You can watch footage from the race and take home plenty of memorabilia from the gift shop. There are statues and information about the trail itself as well as the people involved in the race today, and those who participated in the original trip to Nome. You can also enjoy a ride being pulled by real sled dogs in the winter or summer! If you’re lucky, you could even get to hold the new sled dog puppies!
