Learn about George Eastman and his work in photography and motion pictures.
The George Eastman Museum is located in Rochester, New York inside of Eastman's historic home. It has a large collection of old photography and motion picture films. They have rotating exhibits on display in their gallery in the main hall and on the second floor. George Eastman gained an interest in photography in his early 20s and eventually, he established a business (Eastman Kodak Company) and helped create easy-to-use cameras that helped photography become more widely accessible. Eastman also developed a flexible film that allowed motion pictures to become a reality.
This museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. The Eastman mansion was built in the early 1900s and it was George's primary residence until his death in 1932. Be sure to enjoy the garden areas outside before you leave. The gardens are open from May to September for guided tours, self-guided strolls, and special events.
