Come see this spectacular lighthouse and cliffside in Maine.
The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is located in the Acadia National Park and is a big attraction. This lighthouse was built in 1858 and stands 56 feet tall as a beacon to all. There is a path that will lead you directly to the lighthouse and a viewing area. This is a great place to look out over the harbor and the distant islands. You will also find an information plaque that tells more about the lighthouse and its history.
Unfortunately, visitors are not able to tour inside the lighthouse since it is a private residence. Look for the other path that leads to the front of the face of the cliff. If you continue on this path, stop and take some pictures of the lighthouse and cliffs. There is a town nearby where you can do some shopping and stop for a bite to eat before continuing your journey within Acadia National Park. The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is a spectacular place to visit, so be sure to take some time to stretch your legs here.
