Enjoy a stroll on this 6.5-mile trail.
The Kennebec River Rail Trail welcomes bikers, dog walkers, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts. It follows an existing railroad track along the Kennebec River, offering natural beauty and awesome sights along the way. It is especially neat if you come during sunrise or sunset but beware of bugs that often come out around dusk. This paved trail leads from Augusta to Gardiner, Maine and some of it even takes you through downtown Hallowell.
One of the main access points is the parking lot near Memorial Bridge in Augusta. Sometimes, the trail hosts community events such as 5K runs and cycling races, so check out their website for current information. If you love taking long walks, be sure to explore the Kennebec River Rail Trail if you're traveling through Maine. The best time of year is during the spring and fall when the trees are most colorful. However, any time of year is a good time to visit Augusta, Maine.
