Visit this historic lighthouse overlooking Muscongus Bay.
The construction of the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse began in 1827, and it is made of concrete. This historic lighthouse is daily from 9 am to 5 pm from mid-May through late October. Entrance fees to go inside the lighthouse are required, and it costs just $3 for anyone ages 12 and up. Due to the size of the lighthouse itself, only small groups can take the spiral staircase to the top. Please note that there are height requirements for anyone wanting to climb the tower.
The previous lighthouse keepers' residence is now a museum full of amazing artifacts and displays depicting the area's history. There is also a gift shop and an art gallery featuring local artists. Capture views of the bay and the Atlantic Ocean during your visit. You may encounter some wind or fog, but if you're here during nice weather, feel free to bring a picnic. The area is dog-friendly, so you can spend as much time as you like around the lighthouse grounds. You are also welcome to enjoy the beach, which is a 7-minute drive (3.6 miles) from the lighthouse, and it features tide pools and a rocky shoreline. Discover this incredible historic lighthouse the next time you're traveling through Maine.
