Take a picture next to this home dating back to the 18th century.
This historic site is south of Augusta, on the eastern shore of the Kennebec River in Pittston, Maine. The grounds of the Colburn House are open daily from 9 am to sunset. Colburn House is currently only open for special events, but you can walk around the home, look at the barn, see the carriage house, and also enjoy observing the local wildlife while you're here.
The Colburn House features Federal-style architecture and it was constructed in 1765. President George Washington knew the owner of this home and the Colburn's were a prominent family during the colonial era. Benedict Arnold and Aaron Burr once slept inside the home, and it was the launch site where colonial soldiers left to attack the British stronghold of Quebec back in September 1775.
