Take a ride on this historic railroad in Delaware.
The Wilmington & Western Railroad is located in northern Delaware. Hop aboard this scenic railroad system and take a journey back in time. The railroad route dates back to the 1860s when it transported goods from Wilmington, Delaware, into Landenberg, Pennsylvania. Today, they have steam-powered and diesel-powered locomotives, plus a historic 1929 Pennsylvania Railroad "Doodlebug" railcar that takes guests 10 miles through Greenbank, Faulkland, Wooddale, Ashland, Yorklyn, and Hockessin.
Themed rides include the Easter Bunny Express, Fireworks Express, Hayride Express, Santa Claus Express, Holiday Lights Express, and more. This is the oldest tourist railroad that is operated by volunteers. It operates most of the year in rain or shine but usually departs on the weekends. Guests are allowed to bring their own food on the train. Please note that the train is not air-conditioned, so bring water to stay hydrated if you're visiting in the summer. All passengers must arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled departure to ensure the train will not leave before you arrive.
