Visit the first air museum that opened in the “first in flight” state.
If you like airplanes, you will enjoy your visit to the Western North Carolina Air Museum. Anyone can come to see the various vintage airplanes on display. Some of the aircraft date back to 1915 and others are replica versions of warplanes such as the SE-5A British fighter used in WWI. This museum is dedicated to the living history of flight and participates in plane restoration projects from time to time.
There is no admission fee to enter, but donations are always welcomed. The museum hours are limited throughout the year, so be sure to look at their website and plan accordingly. Come and learn about these retired airplanes and gain insight into the technology used to build these fascinating flying machines in the state where flight began.
