An iconic destination for breathtaking hikes, visiting Chimney Rock State Park is a must if you’re in the western North Carolina region.

You will encounter the impressive Chimney Rock State Park in the eastern territory of the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than an hour of a drive away from Asheville, North Carolina. This park is best known for its collection of different hiking trails for visitors to enjoy-ten to be exact. Most of the hikes in the park are on the more difficult side, so make sure to lace up your best hiking boots before embarking on a trail here.

Exclamation Point Trail is on the shorter side time-wise at, but it is a pretty steep hike up to the peak. First, you will come across the Opera Box, a picturesque lookout spot where you can gaze out onto Lake Lure in the distance. Eventually, you will arrive at Exclamation Point and have the opportunity to admire the Hickory Nut Gorge that runs through the park as well as the Rocky Broad River. You won’t be able to peel your eyes away from these views on a glowing autumn day. Hickory Nut Falls is another must see here, and you can get to it via a roundtrip 1.4-mile hike. The trail will guide you through dense foliage until you reach the bottom of this 400-foot cascading waterfall that will be sure to fascinate you.

The last trail in Chimney Rock State Park that is imperative to check out is of course the trail that leads to Chimney Rock, called Outcroppings Trail. Chimney Rock is 535 million years old and produces a scene like no other from the peak. Outcroppings Trail is a 494-step undertaking, but there is the option to take their unique elevator if you aren’t up for the leg workout. The elevator will drop you off with 44 steps remaining to reach the top. At the top, there will be a view of the gorge and lake, rolling mountains, and endless trees. It’s no wonder that Chimney Rock State Park is becoming an essential location to visit for travelers all over.
