Tour this historic Alabama home built in 1819.
The Weeden House Museum and Garden are located in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. It is a 19th century home featuring period furniture and original portrait paintings by Mary Howard Weeden. Maria Howard Weeden was a talented painter, and many of her works were of African Americans. Not only was she an artist, but she was also a poet. When she created portraits for people, she often wrote a poem to go along with them. For over 100 years, it served as the Weeden family home, except during a brief period when federal officers forced them out of their home during the American Civil War.
Guided tours are available Tuesday through Saturday at 10 am and 1 pm. Tours last about an hour and they always begin on time, so please arrive early. Admission is $5 per adult and $3 for children ages 12 and under. Be sure to take a look at this historic home the next time you're in Huntsville, Alabama.
