This is one of Alabama’s top free-admittance attractions. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens have delighted visitors since its opening in 1963. Established by James W. Morgan on a 69-acre lot on the eastside of the Birmingham Zoo, he created these stunning gardens. More than 350,000 visitors come annually to visit this place.
There are 42 different gardens and features throughout the area, with over 12,000 different types of plants. You will also get to see over 30 outdoor sculptures and walk along several miles of paths. There are classes offered at the gardens for kids and adults to learn about plant studies, health and wellness, yoga, gardening, and more. They also have fun events like spring and fall plant sales, Earth Day festivities, and an art gallery with rotating exhibits. The gardens are open daily from 7 am to 5 pm.
