Enjoy picturesque views of Long Island Sound at this state park.
Sunken Meadow State Park overlooks Smithtown Bay in southeastern New York. This is a popular place to go picnicking, relaxing on the beach, swimming, kayaking, and doing group activities. Swimming in these waters is even suitable for children since most of the time, the waters are pretty calm. There is also plenty of space to play frisbee and participate in informal outdoor sports with friends and family. If you're a bird enthusiast, common birds you can expect to see include belted kingfishers, blue jays, black-capped chickadees, yellow-rumped warblers, northern cardinals, mute swans, and more.
For anyone searching for a large gathering place, this state park has one reservable pavilion that can accommodate up to 200 people. There is a $200 to $250 fee for use of the pavilion and you can reserve it online. Sunken Meadow State Park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
