Discover the early history of Colorado Springs at this ranch.
The Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is located on the western edge of Colorado Springs, Colorado. This place was solely inhabited by the Ute Native Americans up until the late 1700s. After the Homestead Act was put in place, Scottish immigrant Walter Galloway came here and established the homestead cabin. At this particular site, you will learn about the life of early settlers that came here before the railroad was built. In 1874, Robert Chambers bought this piece of land from Galloway. Chambers raised his family in the Rock Ledge Ranch home during the late 1800s. While exploring this home, you will gain insight into the late 1800s and see how the Chambers family lived and worked.
All of the trails at this historic site are open daily from dawn to dusk. They have a Summer Living History Program that runs from the first Saturday in June until the second Saturday in August, plus other special events throughout the year. Seasonal events include the Folk Art Festival, Holiday Tea and Tour days, Hay Rides, Native American celebrations, and more. Feel free to bring a light meal to eat outside, there are picnic tables at the southern end of the historic Orchard house plus other spots near the pond. Admission rates to view the historic buildings cost less than $10 per person, and children ages 0 - 5 have free admission.
