Visit America's only zoo located in a tropical rainforest.
The Panaewa Rainforest Zoo is located on the eastern side of Hawaii's big island. It has been around since 1978 and houses nearly 200 animals. Wildlife creatures you will see at the zoo include capuchin monkeys, iguanas, alligators, white bengal tigers, emus, macaws, various native Hawaiian birds, and more. Along with the zoo, you can also visit the botanical gardens here.
This family-friendly attraction is open daily from 10 am to 3 pm. They host annual fundraising events such as tiger fun day (usually around late June) and the plant sale (the Sunday before Mother's Day). Panaewa Rainforest Zoo is an excellent place for a family outing while visiting the big island. If you love zoos and want to spend quality time with your loved ones, be sure to add this place to your Hawaii itinerary.
