North Wheeler State Recreation Area

Enjoy this quaint recreation area during a relaxing getaway.

The North Wheeler Recreation Area has 2 separate sites that are fairly close together. Right after entering the recreation area, you can find the first area with one water source for the 8 beachside campsites and one vault toilet. The other side has 5 tent areas and one vault toilet. Guests can also bring their RVs to the gravel pads, which offer 50-30 amp and 110-volt plug-ins.

All of the sites have a fire pit and a picnic table available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring your boat and launch from the local boat dock. Anglers can also enjoy a good time and prepare their fish at the on-site fish cleaning station. Pets must remain on leashes at this recreational area. Keep in mind that visitors need to drive 7 miles on a dirt and gravel road with several switchbacks. Bring everything that you may need with you, or stop in the small town of Platte on the way to the North Wheeler Recreation Area. Adventure awaits at this secluded place in South Dakota.
