Visit the smallest state park in Kansas.
In the Smoky Hills district of Central Kansas, located just South of state route 140, you will find Mushroom Rock State Park. The park's name comes from the famous mushroom rock formations, although the park has several other unique rock formations. The park comprises only five acres, but it still has a lot to offer. There are all sorts of formations to see, the tallest being a mushroom rock, standing over 25-feet tall.
Within the formations, there are traces of sands and minerals from over 100 million years ago. Since then, the location has been known to be a meeting ground for various Native American tribes and many travelers. Mushroom Rock State Park has various picnic tables spread throughout and restroom facilities. The park is located down a path of twisting and winding dirt roads which cause the roads to turn into wet clay during the rainy season. Take a stroll through this historically rich state park the next time you’re driving through Kansas.
