Visit one of the tallest waterfalls on the West Coast.
Located Southeast of Tillamook, Oregon, you can get to this waterfall right off State Route 101. Munson Creek was named after a settler, Goran Munson, who built a homestead here in 1889. Open to the public since 2000, Munson Creek Falls is over 300 feet tall and has several different tiers and viewpoints to look at. Several trees have piled up at the very base of the falls, so there has been some dispute about the falls' actual height; however, it is the tallest waterfall West of the Willamette River.
The hike to reach the falls is a little over half a mile round trip and is perfect for hikers of all ages. If you look closely along the creek, you may catch a glimpse of the salmon population that often inhabits the area during the fall and winter spawning season. The hiking trail is open for day use to all visitors, and the old-growth trees offer a shady canopy throughout the hike. Some of the trees you will encounter include maple, red cedar, Sitka spruce, and red alder. Dogs are allowed on the trail provided they stay on a leash.
