This beautiful Oregon coast city is home to Haystack Rock and Ecola State Park. Explore the natural beauty of Northwestern Oregon here.
Take about a 90-minute drive west from Portland and you will reach the beautiful coastal town of Cannon Beach, Oregon. Cannon Beach has been named one of the top 10 romantic coastal destinations in the United States. It has breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and has lots of different secluded beaches to walk on. There are often extremely low tides in the area during the day so this is the perfect place to explore for beach lovers. Dogs are generally fine to bring along with you to these local beaches. You may find baby seal pups resting on the shore. If that is the case, it is best to simply leave them alone and not let your dogs disturb them.
There are plenty of vacation homes and luxury resorts to stay in at Cannon Beach. You can enjoy a relaxing stay as you listen to the sounds of the ocean. Be sure to visit the famous Haystack Rock while you're here. This is a popular spot that also has lots of tidepools to look at. Watch your step when you view these tidepools to preserve their ecosystem. You can find so many sea creatures such as sea stars, anemones, crabs, snails, coral, and sea slugs at the bottom of these tidepools. Spring and summer months provide the best low tides for you to view the beautiful tidepools.
If you want to hike on some magnificent trails, head to Ecola State Park. This park stretches for 9 miles and offers some great photo opportunities for hikers. You can view an abandoned lighthouse at one point along the trail and if you're lucky enough, you may be able to spot gray whales in the distance during the winter and spring months. The local forests are amazingly green and luscious, almost as if you're in a rain forest.
