Fish and swim at Kiptopeke Beach in Eastern Virginia.
Kiptopeke State Park is located off U.S. Highway 13, bordering Chesapeake Bay. Captain John Smith explored this area in the early 1600s, and it is an excellent place to visit if you're into birding. You can even plan an extended stay and book one of their RV sites, campgrounds, lodges, or cabins. Boating, camping, hiking, fishing, and swimming are popular pastimes for many visitors. Be aware that the swimming beach does not have a lifeguard, and it is open during daylight hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The fishing pier is open 24/7 from April 1 through December 31 (it is lighted during the night), and rates are $5 per adult and $3 per child (up to 12 years old) to use the pier. There is also a $7 fee to park at Kiptopeke State Park. They have two rentable picnic shelters that can accommodate up to 80 people, so reserve one if you want to have a large gathering at the park with friends and family. Anyone passing through the Chesapeake Bay area should visit Kiptopeke State Park in Eastern Virginia.
