Explore this rugged state park in rural Alaska.
Though Kachemak Bay State Park cannot be reached by car, the difficulty of flying or boating to the park is well rewarded. Nearly 400,000 acres are available for bikers, boaters, rock climbers, bird watchers, and nearly any other outdoor activity. The multitude of animal life amazes all visitors with close visits from oceanic animals such as sea lions and whales, forest life such as moose, and bird species such as eagles and puffins. A notable feature is the glaciers and fields of ice and snow stretching for seemingly endless miles. Popular points of interest include Grewingk Glacier, Halibut Cove Lagoon, and Poot Peak.
Please note that this part of Alaska has no cell service, so be cautious and consider bringing a satellite phone if at all possible. Camping is available for those that are well prepared and equipped with appropriate outdoor gear. Kayaking is another fun thing to do here. If you love the great outdoors and seek solace among the backcountry of Alaska, head to Kachemak Bay State Park.
