Explore the area where Juan Bautista de Anza and his crew once traveled.
The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail commemorates the 1776 journey that Spanish military commander de Anza led from Sonora, Mexico, to the Golden Gate Bridge. Visitors can begin their hike at Mountain Lake in the same place where members of Anza's expedition first camped centuries ago. You will also see Presidio's most beautiful natural areas, historic attractions, and the World War ll Memorial. The Anza Trail has four scenic viewing areas, including the Lobos Valley Overlook, the Pacific Overlook, the Golden Gate Overlook, and the Immigrant Point Overlook. All areas are perfect areas to rest and enjoy the awesome views.
There are restrooms at Mountain Lake Park and the Golden Gate Bridge. Guests are also welcome to stop at the picnic area at the Immigrant Point Overlook. This moderate out-and-back hiking trail is 5.3-miles long, and the first part of the trail is mostly uphill. It has an elevation gain of 900 feet as it threads through ranch land, and can get sweltering in the summer. The trail is open to pedestrians, leashed dogs, and cyclists. Look no further for a gorgeous hiking area in coastal California.
