The Elfin Forest is just south of Morro Bay, California, and it encompasses 90-acres of natural marshlands and woodlands. You may see flowers and plants like yarrow, scarlet pimpernel, black mustard, rattlesnake grass, Spencer primrose, Italian thistle, and more. Woodpeckers, kestrels, peregrine falcons, killdeer, and California quail are among the bird species that live here year-round. Other migratory birds to look for are plovers, sandpipers, and hummingbirds, among many more species.
Visitors can walk along the boardwalk, which is less than a mile long and goes in a loop route. You can come to the Elfin Forest anytime between sunrise and sunset. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore this natural area with their owners, but be aware that there are resident coyotes here that have been spotted occasionally. Please note that there are no restrooms in the forest, but there are a few benches and a beach trail. If you need a place to take a breather away from crowds, don't hesitate to visit the Elfin Forest.
